Berg
Managing Partner & Head of Employment (January 1990 - Present)
Specialist areas : all aspects of employment law.
Ideal for : employers large and small who appreciate clear advice which takes full account of business objectives, not simply employment law; businesses facing difficult challenges – including breaches of confidentiality and competition restrictions; senior executives negotiating new employment terms or severance arrangements; complex contractual disputes involving the competing concerns of shareholders, directors and employees.
Background : Alison joined Berg as a trainee solicitor, qualifying as a lawyer in 1992. She was appointed as a partner in 1997 and became managing partner in 2007. She is the firm's training partner, with responsibility for the work placement and trainee programme. Alison is a member of the Employment Lawyers' Association and Vistage.
Career highlights : seeing the progession of new recruits from work experience students to fully qualified lawyers "at the top of their game"
Best piece of advice : be a good listener; it's often the things that people don't tell you that are the most significant.
Outside of work : Alison enjoys an early start at the gym to set her up for the day. She is kept busy with her three children and their growing number of pets, which serve as a good antidote to running a busy commercial practice.
