University Lecturer in Applied Mathematics, Engineering and Technology. Lecturing, tutoring and teaching.

I am registered for a teaching diploma for Further Education and Higher Education. I enjoy teaching technical and mathematical STEM topics (science, technology, engineering & mathematics).
My background is a Physics Graduate from Nottingham University, PhD researcher in Aerospace Engineering from Manchester University and a Chartered Engineer since 2000. I have worked and enjoyed various lecturing, teaching and education roles at many Science Ambassador and Science Roadshow events, which has included teaching specifically at Bristol City College, Filton High School, Abbeywood School, Nottingham University, Cambridge University, Open University and principally at Brunel University as a Lecturer.

Previous teaching experience includes topics in Maths, Physics, Engineering and Computing Skills at all levels (A-level, HND, Foundation Courses and Undergraduate level).

Iain Barton's Work Experience

BAE Systems, Advanced Technology Centre

Research Engineer and Scientist (October 2004 - December 2011)

Developed mathematical models, engineering and computer simulations in particular for CFD.

Managed programmes that delivered faster CFD toolsets, model integration frameworks.

Delivered new simulation model for physical phenomenon like condensation and deposition models.

Improved engineering design in the fields of CFD, ice growth and nanotechnology applications.

Led software projects in C++ and a developer for software integration using Python.

CERFACS

Research Engineer (September 2002 - September 2004)

New moving-mesh capability at Centre European Research for Algorithms Computation Simulation.

l’Institut Français du Pétrole industrial funded 2-year project with PSA-Peugeot-Citroën.

The work allowed IFP to analyse piston systems using Large Eddy Simulations for the first time.

CERFACS is a leading European Research Centre specialising in computational simulations.

Brunel University

Mechanical University Lecturer (October 1998 - September 2002)

Developed new courses in a fast moving department undergoing change to improve student intake.

Taught courses in computing, mathematics, aerodynamics, fluid mechanics and CFD, etc.

Directed research projects and supervised PhD researchers.

Cambridge University

Research Fellow (January 1996 - October 1998)

Responsible for the development of novel turbulence models for intermittent by-past flows.
